Call of Duty players want Black Ops 6 to break free of CoD HQ

Black Ops 6 is coming, but Call of Duty fans would really rather it wasn't tied to the already bloated CoD HQ app.

Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is not only coming this year, but it's launching on Xbox Game Pass, too. That should be enough to get the community cheering somewhat, but it appears there's a detail many have overlooked.

Over on the Black Ops 6 subreddit, players have noted that the game is being listed as a DLC for CoD HQ, the app that contains multiple games.

Black Ops 6 is a DLC for CoD HQ

As shared by Krenzi_The_Floof, the Xbox Store is showing them that multiple friends already play Black Ops 6 - despite it being months from launch. That's likely to mean the game will be a "DLC" for CoD HQ, at least in the backend of the Xbox storefront.

That's not a knock on the quality of the game, of course, but more the way it's being added to the existing lineup of Call of Duty games. Right now, a quick browse of CoD HQ shows me I can jump into fewer than six Call of Duty titles from Vanguard right the way through to Warzone and Modern Warfare 3.

"God, I hate the cod HQ idea so much," one commenter says. "Just give us separate applications!"

Another notes how the file size is likely to balloon out of control once again (something we've bemoaned before) while others suggest you'll have to open CoD Hub in Steam to then launch Black Ops 6 - adding an extra layer of inconvenience.

What are the benefits of CoD HQ? Well, if you're an ardent franchise fan, you'll at least be able to access just about anything in the same spot, including switching from the current title to Warzone for your battle royale fix. For most people, the convenience comes from a unified list of CoD friends and crossplay opportunities, and a store with cosmetics that can carry on to the next release.
