Sledgehammer Games

After a year of strange decisions from Infinity Ward to forget its roots and identity, Sledgehammer Games looks set to be doing everything that the Modern Warfare developers should have done as it gets set to release the trilogy title.

Modern Warfare 2 parted ways with some very standard Call of Duty features, changing the multiplayer game quite significantly to encourage players of all skill ranges to be able to succeed.

Yet this damaged the product, and players yearned for the return of the standard features. Now it seems like Sledgehammer is obliging for Modern Warfare 3.

Modern Warfare 3 is bringing back classic minimaps

Some of the biggest grievances about Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer were the changes to the minimap. No longer could you see red dots appear on your map for unsuppressed weapons. This has been standard since Call of Duty 1 emerged, but Modern Warfare 2 changed this to protect "sentinels."

Now though, Call of Duty has confirmed that red dots and minimaps will be in sync again. Taking to an SMS promotion - in which codes are being sent to signed-up players - Call of Duty revealed that red dots will be back in Modern Warfare 3. It will also be connected to the in-game ping system.

Call of Duty players react to the returning classic minimaps

While the majority of fans rejoiced at this news, others have taken to social media to play down this returning feature, claiming that it should never have been removed anyway. "Red dots never should have been removed from the mini-map in the first place.

"Call of Duty doesn’t deserve praise for removing a fan favourite franchise staple feature just to re-add it later but I am glad it’s back in MW3," said content creator DougDagnabbit.

Another fan has dubbed Modern Warfare 3 as "Call of Duty: Everything Infinity Ward Refused To Change III." It really does seem like Sledgehammer Games is trying to revitalise multiplayer, though, which can only be positive for Call of Duty.
