Well, well, well, Groot lovers are about to have their roots ripped from underneath them, as Sledgehammer Games is taking Infinity Ward's money-making and turning it into mud.

Gaia - or Groot as many have adopted due to his Guardians of the Galaxy-esque appearance - has been a thorn in our side for months since it landed in the MW2 Season 6 Battle Pass.

It has continued to prick us, way into Modern Warfare 3, but the invisible skin is finally set for a real nerf. Unfortunately, not until the last penny has been squeezed.

Sledgehammer confirms Gaia skin will be removed and nerfed

Having been the bane of everyone's MW3 multiplayer experience so far, the opaque Gaia skin has now landed on Sledgehammer’s fix list.

In a recent AMA, Sledgehammer Games admitted that "adjustments to the Gaia and Gaia Blackcell skins are in the pipeline for Modern Warfare III".

This will see the tree creature be hit with a second nerf, although its first adjustment seemed to do absolutely nothing.

Gaia will only be removed from MW3 after it finishes making money

Interestingly, Sledgehammer confirmed that these changes will not be immediate, and that it has plans to remove the character entirely.

"In a future game update, we'll disable this item until said changes can be released to all players," said the team in the AMA. This insinuates that the skin will only be removed come the end of the current Battle Pass system, allowing players to spend money on tiers and the pass itself, even though the reward will be removed.

Although the time frame was not commented on, it's likely that Groot will be going through the carpentry workshop when Season 1 comes around.  For now, you best be checking your corners twice and skipping Estate...
