Cheating is an eternal problem in multiplayer shooters, but one Call of Duty pro has taken it one step further by spending a chunk of cash to avoid the issue entirely.
Playing Modern Warfare 3 on PC has a huge list of benefits, with super high framerates, stunning graphics, and the increased precision of a mouse being some of the most evident highlights. Even the best guns can't save you from cheaters on PC though, so downgrading might be your only option.
Pro player swaps PC for PS5
As reported by Sportskeeda, Josiah "SLACKED" Berry is one former pro player who has had enough of cheaters running rampant. He's swapped his "$5000 PC" for a brand-new PS5 despite the huge downgrade in performance.
This is due to the fact that it's near-impossible to use or encounter cheats on console, whereas the flexible nature of the PC platform is a completely different story.
This is particularly important considering the release of Ranked Play in Modern Warfare 3, as it's easy to see how players like SLACKED would become frustrated by the lack of competitive integrity in a mode that's plagued by cheaters.
He claims that "the hackers defeated me," so it certainly must have been a bad enough run to force someone to go out and buy an entirely new console.
Could this be the only solution for cheating?
One user in the replies to SLACKED's tweet asked, "Is this really the move now?" and it certainly makes you question the lengths some players are taking to mitigate or avoid cheating entirely.
Of course, going out and buying a new console for the sole purpose of avoiding hackers is on the extreme end, but it does raise questions about the long-term health of the player base on PC.
While Call of Duty has historically been a console-first series, its PC audience has grown significantly in recent years and is largely seen on equal footing. Players certainly aren't happy - especially when it comes to Ranked Play, with another commenter wishing that "everybody would do this so we could actually enjoy Ranked as a community."
