Having saved the Call of Duty League broadcast team by taking over the reins as host from Lottie Van Praag, Loviel "Velly" Cardwell, the community was stunned to learn about his resignation on July 24, just a week before the World Championships.
The CDL took to Twitter to confirm that they had accepted a letter of resignation from Velly, leaving the desk without a host ahead of Champs weekend, although no explanation was offered as to why he was leaving.
Now, reports have surfaced that Velly stepped away from the desk following an altercation with other members of the talent team, and after claiming he has been painted as a "scary black man" members of the professional scene have leapt to his defence.
'I'm Not A Scary Black Man' Says Velly Following CDL Resignation
After reports emerged that his resignation resulted from an intoxicated interaction with other members of the talent line-up (suspected to be Alan "Brice" Brice), Velly felt as if he was being portrayed as a villain.
The incident supposedly took place at an after-party at the Major IV event in New York on July 18, although initial reports suggested that the CDL forced Velly into resignation, which initially insinuated that the altercation was initiated by Velly as the main perpetrator.
"I’m not a scary black man and it’s embarrassing to be painted that way," Velly said on Twitter, before thanking witnesses who have begun to speak out.
CDL Pros Defend Velly After Resignation
As the reports emerged, professional players such as Ian "Crimsix" Porter and Eli "Standy" Bentz have now detailed what happened and have leapt to Velly's defence.
"I personally think this article was sad. I was there & it was a verbal argument between 3 people. What was the point of painting Velly as an evil villain," claimed Standy on Twitter.
Despite being stuck to the F1 Sim Racer following the New York Subliners' miracle Champs qualification, Crimsix further explained that the altercation was not physical, barring a slight shove, and that he soon defused the situation to split the three casters up.
Velly has returned to a position within the VALORANT ranks according to his Twitter bio, which leaves the Call of Duty League without a host for the championships starting on August 4.
