We're in the endgame now, and as Modern Warfare 3 prepares to bow out gracefully, Call of Duty fans have their eyes firmly on the prize of Black Ops 6. It's not a case of simply taking MW3 out back and putting a bullet in its head, with a continuing roadmap expected to keep us playing 2023's CoD for a little longer.

Activision has just revealed the full trailer for MW3 and Warzone Season 5, boasting a revamped Atlas POI that harks back to Verdansk, the previously spoiled WWE crossover, and a host of new maps like the cartoonish Toonoxide map that feels like a Borderlands crossover.

Call of Duty channels The Matrix in Season 5

In the full release notes for Season 5, it's clear there's a lot more on the way. Perhaps one of the wildest updates takes a leaf out of Mario Party's book for a series of minigames. While the party bubble of Fall Guys might've burst, it seems MW3 is putting its own spin on the idea.

New for Season 5 is COD Warrior, which is described as a "2v2v2 quickfire mini-game mode." We're told, "It's all about the team that comes out on top," as you and your partner take part in a series of 15 different minigames. Rounds range from 15 to 90 seconds, are all weapon-based, and Operators are given one life.

Three teams of two will be pushed to the limit in these randomised games, and the first to five points wins. There's plenty to take in, with highlights including "Beat Up the Car!" where you have to bash up a vehicle, or what about "Meta Loadout!" where you're all given nightmarish loadouts?

However, it's "Bullet Time" that's getting the most attention. It's been 25 years since The Wachowskis released The Matrix, but it's clearly still relevant. In "Bullet Time", teams will test their reflexes against low velocity weapons. We imagine some slow-mo moves as you pull off backflips to avoid death.

With Season 5 going live on July 24, we'll have to see what the reception to COD Warrior is. While it might not be your go-to mode, it's sure to be a way to pass time with friends. Still, the reception to Season 5 has been somewhat lukewarm for now, accused of rehashing old ideas and missing out on a Deadpool & Wolverien collab
