Castlevania continues to disappoint with its latest crossover

It looks like another Castlevania crossover is coming, and although Alucard is set to appear in Astro Bot, fans are disappointed that we're not getting a new Castlevania game.

If you're a Castlevania fan, you've probably come to expect that the franchise's best years might be behind it. While Konami's vampiric romp has come a long way from its humble start in 1986, the fact we haven't had a new game since 2014's Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 has us more than a little worried.

Konami has recently made an effort to revisit its forgotten favourites, with both Metal Gear and Silent Hill getting some much-needed TLC. Unfortunately, Castlevania remains confined to the crypt with a stake through its heart and a bulb of garlic shoved in its mouth.

Castlevania is getting another crossover

These days, Castlevania is known for pachinko machines or crossover with other games. While we're not knocking Dead Cells' Castlevania DLC or Vlad and Trevor appearing in Dead By Daylight, Castlevania is in danger of losing its identity as a franchise of its own. Unfortunately, the latest update won't do anything to alleviate those fears.

15 minutes of footage for Astro Bot has made its way online, as has a ResetEra thread highlighting 72 gaming cameos. There are some weird and wonderful faces destined to pop up in Team Asobi's adorable platformer. With this being a PlayStation exclusive, it makes sense that many have a tie to the Blue Team's past.

Among all the usual movers and shakers like LittleBigPlanet's Sackboy and Street Fighter's Ryu, there's Devil May Cry's Dante, the cat from Stray, and God of War's Chaurli (sorry, no Kratos). It's also wild that Sony is giving the Zelda-esque Dark Cloud its time in the spotlight in 2024.

Konami's big three all get the nod, with Metal Gear's Solid Snake, Silent Hill's Pyramid Head, and Castlevania's Alucard. Sadly, this is just another incident of Castlevania being honoured everywhere apart from in its own game.

It's not like Castlevania isn't still insanely popular, with the Castlevania: Anniversary Collection and two Netflix animes reminding us how beloved the IP is. Many of us are hoping that Konami is just busy getting Silent Hill back and that it won't be long before Dracula spreads his wings once again.
