CoD fans divided about MW3 getting 'rid' of Riot Shields

Call of Duty fans are divided over whether Modern Warfare 3 should 'get rid' of Riot Shields permanently or whether they're a key part of the shooter series.

There have been countless iconic weapons throughout CoD's history, from the UMP45 to the Intervention, and even the GRAU from MW2019.

However, the one that stands out as the most controversial doesn't even fire bullets and is responsible for a playstyle that's absolutely hated by certain Call of Duty players.

We're obviously talking about the Riot Shield, a defensive wall that's capable of blocking all damage and causing the maximum amount of frustration for your opponents.

With MW3 on the horizon, the Call of Duty community is divided over whether Sledgehammer should "get rid" of Riot Shields completely.

CoD players want MW3 devs to "get rid" of Riot Shields

Taking to the ModernWarfareIII subreddit, user ExtensionAd3251 decided to voice their concerns about the power of Riot Shields ahead of MW3, and the ability to run them as a secondary with "zero penalty" at the moment in MW2.

For them, the ability to "protect 45% of your model has to go," as it feels like a "cheap" strategy that's just unbelievably frustrating to play against. Other members in the thread agree, suggesting that Sledgehammer "get rid" of Riot Shields completely.

"At this point, just get rid of the Riot shield in general, every year, there is some bulls**t issue or bug with them," said one user, with another arguing "I don't even like Riot Shields being in the game because it just creates cheesy playstyles in general."

While the Juggernaut killstreak featured in the MW3 Beta includes a Riot Shield, this is fine for a lot of players, as it's meant to be a powerful reward. However, when it comes to running them in your Gunsmith loadouts, that's where some players want Sledgehammer to take a stand.

Other MW3 fans just want Riot Shield to get nerfed

MW2 Riot Shield

Not everyone agrees, though, with some MW3 fans claiming Riot Shields are a staple in Call of Duty and there are better ways of fixing the defensive weapons instead of just deleting them from the game.

One suggestion came in the form of banning the "combo of shotguns and shields," which are particularly oppressive, especially when paired with a stun grenade.

Another nerf idea was to "add a movement penalty" for Riot Shield users that removes "unlimited sprint" or causes them to move slower. This would at least add a level of counterplay against shield fans and make them less infuriating to encounter in multiplayer.

Whether Sledgehammer opts to nerf the Riot Shield in the future of MW3 or not, it's almost guaranteed that they'll be available in Gunsmith when the game releases on November 10.
