With Modern Warfare 3 on the horizon, a lot of the Call of Duty community is curious about whether the current progression system and ways of obtaining cosmetics should be changed in the new title.

While incredibly controversial at the time, Supply Drops from Call of Duty: WWII were effectively loot boxes that offered players a random chance of receiving various rewards.

This was slammed as "predatory" and "gambling" back then, but some fans now think they should be brought back in MW3 as they hate the expensive skin store. This has caused a divide amongst players, with others claiming loot boxes "were not good for Call of Duty or gaming in general."

Call of Duty fans want Supply Drops back in MW3

Taking to Twitter on July 30, popular Call of Duty account ModernWarzone decided to share their opinion on loot boxes, arguing "Supply drops and loot boxes were not good for Call of Duty or gaming in general."

This sparked a discussion within the community, with a lot of fans declaring that they preferred the WWII Supply Drops system because "you could earn everything by playing the game... Now you have to pay for it."

"I'd rather spend $5 for random stuff that makes it rare to get than $20 on a useless bundle EVERYONE in the game has," said one player, with another arguing that "Supply Drops gave you something to grind for in the game - which actually made the game fun."

It's clear some certain members of the playerbase miss the progression and consistent rewards that came with Supply Drops. However, others believe it's good they've been left in the past, and that they should never return to CoD.

Other CoD players disagree & slam "predatory" loot boxes

WW2 Supply Drops CoD

Not everyone loved the days of loot boxes in WWII, with some users arguing the "predatory" system was just "gambling" in disguise.

Others claim that Supply Drops meant you never got the item you wanted, with one player revealing they have "500+ hours on that game and still haven't unlocked anything because it always gives you duplicates."

While this debate has divided the community, it's incredibly unlikely Call of Duty will ever reintroduce loot boxes in MW3. The current system is generating a huge amount of profit with the Battle Pass, BlackCell, and store bundles.

However, it's obvious CoD players feel as if they do not unlock enough cosmetics for free, so Supply Drops seem like the better option.
