Modern Warfare 3 is on the cusp of launch, with fans desperate to check out the remastered MW2 (2009) maps, the action-packed campaign, and new features like the 3v3v3 Cutthroat mode.

Of course, as with any live-service title, progression is absolutely essential if you want to retain your player base after release.

With MW3 Season 1 scheduled to arrive in December though, what's going to keep fans busy throughout November?

Well, the MW3 dev team has revealed its answer, but it hasn't exactly gone down well with a lot of the community.

Call of Duty fans hate MW3's Pre-Season progression

As showcased by popular Call of Duty account CharlieINTEL, MW3's Pre-Season progression has been revealed.

During the time before Season 1, players will be able to level Military Ranks from 1-55, complete challenges, level up both MW2 & MW3 weapons, and even finish the remainder of the Season 6 Battle Pass. Well, fans aren't pleased and are concerned the system is going to be very similar to MW2019.

"Military ranks... If this ends up being the same thing we had in MW19 then I will be SO gutted, that's the worst system we ever had," said one user, with another joking "God I love hitting level 55 in the first couple of days then just sitting there, so fun and engaging."

It's clear a lot of fans are worried the Military Ranks just aren't going to be enough, and may push them off of the game before Season 1 even starts.

CoD fans were desperate for a classic prestige system in MW3

All of this talk about Pre-Season once again led to Prestige being called for by fans, who seem to have been asking for the OG progression system for years now.

However, yet again, Sledgehammer appears to have opted for the safe route and adopted the typical live service progression that resets every season.

"I miss when all the prestiges and levels used to be there from Day 1," said one user, with another arguing "What happened to the old prestige system, where you could continuously [sic] level up and go prestige, such a waste."

Season 1 needs to deliver for Sledgehammer, as based on these reactions surrounding Pre-Season, players are convinced they're going to complete Military Ranks within a few days.
