World at War is an absolute classic lost to the ages, as the fifth Call of Duty is a distant memory to old-school gamers and an archive that never gets dusted down for the newer crop to enjoy.
Treyarch's pre-Black Ops game was a massive success, putting the studio on the map just as CoD 4 began to up the ante for the entire series.
But fans feel that there might be a reason that only one map in the game has been remastered in the last five years of live-service models (Castle and Dome in Vanguard), and that's because a World at War remaster would absolute bang.
Keeping the ammunition of a full-blown WaW remaster in the chamber for a rainy day is a stroke of genius. Speaking of strokes, some fans have made bold claims as a World at War Remastered proposal has stirred the community's loins.
Call of Duty fan proposes a complete World at War remaster with previously cut content
In a recent Reddit thread, one player has called for an entire World at War remaster. This has probably been requested a million times, and with Black Ops 6 possibly being the first of two back-to-back Treyarch games (or games set in Treyarch's universe akin to MW3 by Sledgehammer), now would be the perfect time to revisit this gem.
Reddit user u/stefanclift delved into what World at War Remastered could look like, staying true to the original rather than adapting it. The popular post explained that WaW's original content, including multiplayer and the campaign, could be combined with newer features and settings to produce a masterful game.
Ray tracing, revamped graphics, crossplay, and a modern-day engine were all listed to help bring this game into the current era. One of the biggest changes would be to the campaign, as the user noted the WaW campaign cut the entire "British" section out.
A return to Blighty would make for an interesting option to revisit and flesh out to add value to this game rather than dusting off the old consoles. All of this could fit inside a Call of Duty: Classics HQ, much like the current CoD HQ, which saps all of your storage but could open the doors to even more remastered content down the line.
Sounds great, right? Well, some fans saw this and fell to their knees in their bedrooms...
Call of Duty fans lose it over WaW Remaster proposal
[WAW] Remastered What If
byu/stefanclift inCallOfDuty
Given that World at War is one of the most-loved old Call of Duty games, fans immediately promised some wild acts if this was to actually happen.
"WaW is my favorite CoD I would genuinely slob on the k**b of the person who would do this whether it be fan-made or CoD official," one erotic fan said. "If I saw an official WaW remaster trailer, I would bust," wrote another randy fan.
Others pointed out that if this were an unofficial fan-made game, they would have to keep the project a complete secret until it was ready to launch in full, as Activision would likely nuke it before it was released, just as it did with the Modern Warfare 2 build.
It's a weird phenomenon that people make promises like that with so much downside if they win, but hey, ho, it looks like the Call of Duty devs could be in store for some hot and stormy weather if a WaW Remaster did come to life.
