Call of Duty: Mobile is the bee's knees when it comes to bringing the series together in a wholesome and complete manner, allowing players to enjoy only the best bits of the console games in one place.
For years CoD Mobile has been pinching bits of the console games and building an impressive portfolio of maps, weapons, and modes, and combined with the incredible skin and camo designs, the game has thrived.
Now, with Call of Duty console in decline, CoD Mobile has risen to the most lucrative and important aspect of the series for Activision, overtaking Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone.
Call of Duty Mobile has made $3 billion in revenue
Since its launch in 2019, CoD Mobile has shone with its Counter-Strike-esque crate system - albeit with a somewhat sinister gambling undertone to it - and has seen players buy into the loot grabbing, quite literally.
Over the last four years, the free-to-play mobile game has made $3 billion in revenue, which Activision revealed in its quarterly financial report.
Throughout this time, the sales were strictly for the multiplayer variant of CoD Mobile, and with Warzone: Mobile set for its worldwide launch later this year, Activision, and now by extension Microsoft, must be galvanising at the prospects of a similar revenue stream.
Call of Duty: Mobile has overtaken consoles as the most-played CoD
Although Modern Warfare 2 is clearly in a lull, with many people diverting to Cold War and other classic Call of Duty games, CoD Mobile has now been confirmed to have a larger player base than all console games combined.
Activision has now claimed that over half of the remaining 90 million Call of Duty players worldwide are generated through CoD Mobile.
For Activision as a whole, mobile apps have been a gold mine, and with CoD Mobile teaming with Candy Crush, the handheld games have generated $1.9billion in the last six months alone, which trumps the PC players base ($1.25bn) and those on consoles ($1.19bn).
Call of Duty fans might want to get ready for another big year for the mobile apps too, given Verdansk is returning in Warzone: Mobile, which will definitely be a winner.
