Call of Duty is one of the most popular gaming franchises ever, with 22 titles being released in the mainline series.

While nearly every game has sold a significant amount of copies, certain titles are remembered more fondly than others.

With Modern Warfare 2 (2009), Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare attaining legendary status, not every CoD has reached those heights.

So, what's the worst Call of Duty game in history? Well, CoD fans have cast their votes and the chosen title may not be what you're expecting.

What's the worst Call of Duty game in history?

Taking to Twitter on August 20, popular Call of Duty account CharlieINTEL decided to ask their followers what the worst Call of Duty game is in their opinion.

While a lot of older CoD fans would assume Ghosts would retain that title, that's no longer the case. Instead, Call of Duty: Vanguard has been labelled the worst CoD game of all time, with an overwhelming number of votes.

The main reasons for its poor reputation within the community are down to it having the "2nd worse campaign ever, the ACTUAL worse zombies game mode [and] one of the worse multiplayer's that has no clear identity for itself."

Another said, "Turned me off from COD completely," and a third concluded, "The first one I actually skipped on lmao and it wont be my last unfortunately." All of this came together to create a title that was almost completely universally disliked by CoD fans and has now replaced Ghosts at the bottom of the list.

Worst Call of Duty game: Honourable mentions

Vanguard Call of Duty

In terms of honourable mentions for the worst-ever Call of Duty game, there were a few others that also received a significant amount of votes.

These included MW2019, Infinite Warfare, Ghosts, and even Modern Warfare 2 (2022), which got a lot of mentions from the community.

It's hard to know whether the hatred towards Vanguard is due to it being such a recent release. Over the years since Ghosts launched, some of the community have grown to love the once-disgraced title.

Whether Vanguard will receive the same grace in future years is a mystery, but for now, it sits comfortably at the bottom of the rankings.
