CoD players slam anime ‘goon gun’ camo while waiting for Black Ops 6

Call of Duty players have found another anime camo to complain about while they wait for the realism of Black Ops 6, with disgruntled gamers calling out the Cat-Girl Smile camo.

Even when they're given something for free, Call of Duty players can't help but have a good moan. Those golden days of getting muddy in the trenches of World War II are just a distant memory, and as the CoDverse can't help but cash in on outlandish crossovers and wacky skins, the franchise's 'Fortnitification' continues.

These complaints have particularly plagued Modern Warfare 3. Where else could you see Nicki Minaj take on King Kong while The Walking Dead's Rick Grimes watches from the sidelines? While we've had plenty of fun with its The Boys crossovers, there's a sigh of relief that Black Ops 6 is supposedly going back to basics.

Call of Duty fans slam Cat-Girl Smile camo

Although we still expect the odd eyebrow-raising skin to land in Black Ops 6, it seems the really wacky will be saved for Warzone. This comes at a cost, and with the carry-forward system not in play for 2024, it means all those weird and wonderful skins will be left in the past with MW3. With that, the devs are going all out in its endgame.

The latest update has added the Echo Endo Live! event to MW3 and Warzone. Grinding XP through challenges, the prize at the end of the rainbow is the anime-inspired Cat-Girl Smile camo, or as the haters have dubbed it, the "goon gun." Although we're not here to kink shame, it seems the camo is marketed at a particularly randy demographic.

Serving like a mini battle pass, the Echo Endo Live! event asks players to earn XP across multiplayer, Zombies, or battle royale and unlock specific rewards. To get the Cat-Girl Smile camo, you'll need a total of 290,000 XP across the various modes, which shouldn't be too much of a bother. For once, it's nice to see a camo we don't have to pay for.

A handy hint is to drop a Double XP Token in multiplayer, Zombies, or Warzone to chip away at your XP goal, although looking at the response, most of you will be giving this one a wide berth. On the MW3 Reddit, one critic simply wrote, "Behold The Goon Gun."

With its anime inspiration, many said this kind of camo has no place in Call of Duty, championing the upcoming release of Black Ops 6 and hopes of some normality returning to the series. Another added, "The weeaboos are happy right now I bet," and a third said, "People act like cod is a milsim for some f**king reason even tho it’s been goofy af for years."

A particularly vocal grumble states, "No disrespect to the artists, but what happened to ACTUAL anime skins? We get the weird pervy flushed face as our only anime skins now. Mw19 had actually decent thought-out anime skins and color patterns, like the striker anime bundle, the g36 anime bundle, even the Odin."

It's a nice surprise that we can unlock the Cat-Girl Smile camo for free, and at the end of the day, no one is forcing you to grind for it. Also, it's a clever bit of rage-baiting that even as Black Ops 6 steals the limelight, an anime camo is reminding players that MW3 still exists.
