Concord players pray for resurrection via Secret Level animation

Firewalk Studios' Concord is no more, but could the Secret Level animated anthology give the axed game the resurrection it deserves?

Concord Could Return Via Secret Level

Is 2024 the year that the live-service bubble finally bursts? After the colossal tanking of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League reportedly putting Warner Bros. $200 million in the red, Firewalk Studios' Concord is destined to cost Sony a pretty penny.

Having been in development for eight years, Concord was hoping to barge its way into the already saturated shooter market. Unfortunately, the game struggled to get off the ground and ultimately couldn't escape comparisons to Guardians of the Galaxy mixed with Overwatch

While free-to-play shooters continue to pave the way, Concord's $40 entrance fee is also thought to be a major reason why you simply weren't jumping in. None of that really matters anymore, as just weeks after it was released, Concord is no more.

Secret Level is bringing back Concord - for better or for worse

IGN: Concord episode of Secret Level going ahead in spite of game's cancellation

As noted by IGN, the planned Concord episode of Prime Video's Secret Level is still going ahead. Given the lengthy process that goes into making an animated series, it's no surprise that Amazon won't be pulling the Concord-themed episode just because the game is no more.

Still, with Secret Level releasing on December 10, it will be a full three months since Concord has been blasted out of the airlock without a spacesuit. The red-faced Star Child looks like he'll feature prominently in the Secret Level episode, and while plot details are under wraps, we imagine it'll expand the dead game's lore.

Over on the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, fans are musing about the sad state of affairs and how it'll be odd to remember Concord after its demise. One gamer said, "I don't expect this scenario to happen AT ALL, but what if Secret Level's Concord episode is considered one of the anthology's best episodes? 🤔 (Again, I do not expect it to be the case, but stranger things can happen.)"

Another chimed in, "Honestly, had the episode aired first, Concord might've actually been successful enough to at least keep going for a while. Even if the episode isn't the best, it would have a chance to introduce people to the characters and maybe get them invested. And maybe buy the game they otherwise didn't."

A third said, "Will it reignite some interest in the game later on, possibly sparking a relaunch? Will it be bad? Will it be iconically bad and become a huge meme, or will it just be boring and unremarkable? No matter the outcome, it's gonna create a juicy storyline, and I'm here for it."

Others in the thread joked about the Warner Bros. situation and how the studio was willing to nix completed projects like Batgirl and Coyote vs. Acme. There are some questionable choices when it comes to Secret Level's choice of IPs, and while we're glad to see God of War there, it feels like Amazon insisted New World was included.

Some questioned why legacy IPs like Crash Bandicoot and Spyro weren't given the justice they deserve, although that sounds like a rights nightmare. It would've been great to see a Tomb Raider-themed episode, but we guess you'll have to make do with Concord. Or, as the harshest critics have dubbed it, Guardians of the Galaxy from Wish.
