The impact that Doom has had on the gaming world is undisputed and impossibly huge.

The first-person shooter genre is one that has had control of the industry for a couple of decades at least by now, and none of it would be possible without the innovations of the demon-slaying antics of Doom. John Romero and his team didn't just create a game - they created a phenomenon, and without it, the gaming landscape would look very, very different by now.

It's a lot of pressure to put on one game, of course, but there's still a chance that similar innovations could appear in the industry. And as the original creator of Doom is hiring for a new project, it could be coming very soon indeed.

John Romero Is Working On A New FPS

Welcome back, Romero.

John Romero, the creator of Doom, is getting back in the saddle of game development, as he has revealed his return to making new video games in a new Twitter post.

He has revealed that his new game is building a team and is actively hiring right now, so if you think that you're up to the task of carrying Romero's ideas for yourself, your chance to be a part of gaming history is here.

"Exciting news!" he says in his celebratory tweet.

"I'm working on a new FPS, and we're hiring. Visit romerogames.com and check out our careers page."

John Romero's New FPS Will Be In Unreal Engine 5

The full statement reveals more about the game too - "It's a new dawn for Romero Games. We're working with a major publisher to develop John Romero's next shooter: an all-new FPS with an original, new IP. Our team is expanding, and we're looking for talented people for all positions and at all experience levels, particularly those with Unreal Engine 5 Experience."

It's great to know that the team of the new game will be working with the best innovations in development right now - and means that the game is likely to run as smooth as butter.

Whatever Romero has in the tank, it's bound to be exciting to boomer shooter fans and FPS fans at large - and we can't wait to see what's next from the innovator.
