Valve has dropped a major update for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) as its August patch has added some serious changes to Mutiny Site A. Even though the August 26 update didn't include a new operation or Source 2, it looks like developers are pushing Mutiny, Cache, or Swamp into the active pool.

Back in July, a CS:GO update saw Mutiny and Swamp replace Chlorine and Jungle in matchmaking, and since then, the maps have grown in popularity among the games fanbase. When it comes to Source 2, there's been a lot of talk about Valve's own engine overhauling CS:GO.

Although the project was reportedly canned, Valve has hinted we could see it before the end of 2021. It would be easy to port its own maps over to Source 2, but the big stumbling block has been the community-made maps and skins - which are proving to be a real problem. Given Mutiny's origin as a community-made map, the latest update might be an indication Valve is putting things back on track.

The official CS:GO blog revealed what's new in the new update. Alongside improved performance across "all areas", there's new bomb reset triggers added to A Site, B Site, and Dock. Site A seems to be the focus here, including changes to wall foliage, tweaked angles for clearer sites, and making it easier to jump. Other changes included a  "modified rock formation at upper T to A into a brick wall to improve visibility and grenade potential".

Elsewhere, Swamp has been given a performance boost across the board. The update confirms that ambient sounds have been turned down, so it should be easier to hear approaching footsteps. Invisible water splashes have been removed, while there's a more "attractive" path from mid up towards heaven. The aim is to make Swamp more T-sided. Finally, some of those easily exploitable gaps have been closed off from CT Spawn defenders.

When it comes to the Cache, the old favourite “door stuck” bug from Squeaky has been fixed. This means those ancient 1.6 door stuck memes should be a thing of the past. There's restored functionality for soundscapes and Valve has fixed the molotov exploit at Dark Spot Mid. As Cache approached the one-year anniversary of its update, is Valve preparing to overhaul the old active duty map? All in all, it's not CS:GO's biggest patch, but has enough to keep our interest piqued.
