Though the rollout of the game and its long-awaited DLC was a slow one, Cuphead's presence in the gaming industry has never been a moment too late. After all, Studio MDHR's approach to bringing the incredible aesthetics of the '50s in the form of its animations and sound design doesn't come cheap or quickly.

It's fair enough that we've waited some time over the course of Cuphead's life. As The Delicious Last Course departs, fans are wondering what could be next for the game's team. Thankfully, it looks like Studio MDHR has some plans in motion - and they're a little different to what we might be expecting.

It looks like the Cuphead team is working on something new

New career opportunities have been listed on Studio MDHR’s website, and they seem to point towards a new planned aesthetic for whatever it is that the team is working on next.

The job listings are looking for new staff for a new title, but they actually indicate a big change for the team as well. The team is looking specifically for an Art Director with "An abiding love of arcade action games from the 1980s/1990s."

This would be a shift from Cuphead's nostalgic look, but it's still remaining firmly in the past, just as we'd hoped. Studio MDHR has made a name for itself with its homages to the animation of yesteryear, so even if they're not returning to the '50s vibe of Cuphead, we know that they're at least not leaving their forte behind.

Fans are concerned about Studio MDHR’s hopes for 'up-to-date understanding'

As the job listing has been shared in the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, some fans have voiced their concerns after the job listing has asked its applicant to have "an up-to-date understanding of artistic trends in the gaming industry."

"Are they looking to chase trends now or do they need someone who has insight so they can go the opposite way?" asks one comment. Chances are, they’re seeking to do the latter, as the team seems to know that its dedication to the past is what's keeping them a unique voice in the industry.

Ultimately, only time can tell what's next for Studio MDHR. We'll definitely take that '80s-flavoured shooter, though.
