Music legends Daft Punk just surprised everyone with a Twitch stream of one of their past iconic concerts and fans could not be happier.

French music duo Daft Punk (also known as Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter) certified themselves as one of the greatest bands of all time with their songs ‘One More Time’, ‘Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger’, and ‘Around the World'. Donning their famous gold and silver robot helmets, the pair’s iconic cybernetic tones also featured in The Weeknd’s ‘I Feel It Coming.’ They also worked alongside funk legends Nile Rodgers and Pharrell Williams for their massive hit ‘Get Lucky'.

Electronic music fans around the world were devastated when in February 2021 it was confirmed that Daft Punk had disbanded after 28 years together, and without any explanation as to why. However, the pair have since found numerous ways to treat fans with exciting surprises as a thank you for their continuous support. In a fairly random move, but one we’re incredibly grateful for, Daft Punk Twitch streamed one of their iconic concerts from the archives.

When Did Daft Punk Stream Their Concert On Twitch?

On February 22, one year to the date since the band broke up, Daft Punk teased that there was something exciting on the cards in a cryptic Twitter post. The tweet featured a picture of a lightbox with the words “Mayan presents Daft Punk” along with a caption to the band’s Twitch channel. Some fans then pieced together the clues and divulged that the band were Twitch streaming their 1997 concert from the Mayan Theatre in Los Angeles.

Sadly, it looks like February 22 would have been the only chance to see the concert as it is nowhere to be found on Twitch. However, some very kind fans have already posted the whole 90-minute show on YouTube for anyone who has missed out. Fans hoping to catch a glimpse of the duo without their signature helmets are also in luck.

The gig itself took place on December 12, 1997, just off the back of the band’s ‘Daftendirektour’ world tour and after the release of their debut studio album Homework. Talking of which, as part of the one year anniversary of their breakup, Daft Punk announced via Twitter that a deluxe 25th-anniversary edition of their iconic album would also be dropping on February 22.

Are Daft Punk Getting Back Together?

As of writing, there’s no official word that Daft Punk could be getting back together, but fans are still very hopeful with speculation swirling that the pair could be planning a comeback tour. Although one thing’s for sure, the surprise concert has pulled in the punters with over 203k viewers tuning in to watch the stream, according to Twitch Tracker.

This isn’t the only big news happening in the world of Twitch. The much-anticipated 2022 edition of The Streamer Awards is fast approaching. Not to mention, there is plenty more fun content on the way from Imane “Pokimane” Anys after she confirmed that she’d re-signed with Twitch, despite rumours she could be on the way to YouTube.
