The LEGO-ification of video games is always a treat, so it's just as well that the company feels the same way. LEGO Fortnite was a pretty big shock to many players, and its individuality proved how the video game side of LEGO's brand still had some surprises left in the tank.
In the real world, there are some ties to the video game world, as the company's Super Mario sets have impressed fans everywhere, and the upcoming Animal Crossing collab threatens to sell out. Now, one player has developed a concept that has wowed gaming fans - though it's hard to imagine that LEGO could pick it up.
Fan creates LEGO Dark Souls Mimic
In a new post on the Gaming subreddit, one creator has shared an impressive build that sees the Mimic from Dark Souls brought to life with the medium of LEGO bricks.
The Mimic, known best as an enemy that disguises itself as a chest to catch out unassuming adventures, has now come to life in a new image shared by Reddit user u/reallydensefood. It includes pointy teeth and spindly arms to boot.
Players love the build, asking for the pieces they need in order to put it together themselves - and the creator has kindly agreed to start working on instructions on how to build the Mimic themselves. It's a charming project, and easy to see why fantasy fans have latched on.
What's next for LEGO gaming?
There's plenty to look forward to from LEGO. In particular, the Animal Crossing sets are a project that fans have been hoping would come to life for years. Speaking of which, we're still holding out hope for the once-disproven Legend of Zelda LEGO set.
On the video game side, there's nothing announced yet, but rumours of a LEGO Doctor Who game are yet to be debunked. If real, it could stand as the very best appearance of the series in video games. Watch out LEGO Star Wars, your reign could be coming to an end.
LEGO's connection with video games is an important one, and we'll certainly take more, like this Mimic set. Now, we just need LEGO to embrace the dark side of Soulslike sets. You know it makes sense.
