OpTic duo Dashy and FormaL have slammed the CDL structure just a few days before their first homestand.

The Call of Duty League is fully underway and fast approaching their first major tournament of the year as OpTic Texas host all twelve teams at the Arlington Esports Arena on March 3. Despite getting off to a rough start, OpTic has pulled themselves back in contention to win their first piece of silverware in over a year, with three consecutive wins in the league play format.

A date with Seattle Surge beckons for the green wall, although the league play format has seemingly left a gripe on one of their star players, who has branded the random fixture seeding as "sh*t".

Dashy Brands CDL Structure As Sh*t

Brandon "Dashy" Otell, OpTic's Assault Rifle main now looking to come out of the shadow of his predecessor Matthew "FormaL" Piper, took to a podcast alongside his former teammate to discuss the league format, amongst other subjects such as the metaverse, golden nuggets, and camping.

After being quizzed on the format by CEO Hector "H3CZ" Rodriguez, Dashy said: "I guess the matches are a bit like they were last year, but I think the format, I’m not going to cap, I think it’s pretty sh*t.

After realising that OpTic are prone to fines from the CDL due to their huge spotlight in the community, he quickly added: "Can I say that? If they fine me, they better fine everybody else!"

Why is the CDL Structure 'sh*t'?

Dashy continued: "It kind of doesn't make sense. The way it works is everyone's schedule is different. We could play FaZe and the number two, three, four, and five seeds in the league to qualify [for the major], and another team can play the bottom five - and if we're tied 3-2 [records] they'll knock us out with a better map count because they played worse teams."

Hearing how it works, FormaL also added: "Wait, someone can get in because their schedule was easier? That's really stupid. That's so stupid, actually."

The CDL schedule has come under severe scrutiny in previous weeks, as the developers admitted to their mistakes of starting the season so late in the Call of Duty annual season. As a pending acquisition from Microsoft looms, the structure will likely take some big changes, especially with the upcoming Modern Warfare 2 cycle being the first Call of Duty ever to be lasting two years, as the team scrap the annual release in 2023.

For OpTic, they seem to have blown off their cobwebs after a rough start to the seasons, and will likely want to kick on in a fashion typical of their legacy - with a championship in front of their home fans.
