Uncharted is making a comeback, after we thought that its hype had officially run its course.

The new Uncharted live-action movie hit cinemas today, and helmed by the ever-charming Tom Holland, if it does half as well as the latest Spider-Man movie, it will bring the story of Nathan Drake to a whole new, much bigger, audience.

Plus, the latest Legacy of Thieves Collection helped to refresh a couple of the franchise's titles for the PS5 with stunning effect and has reminded long-term fans that they're not allowed to forget about Drake and his explorer pals just yet.

And now, as the final planned Uncharted project has been released into the world, it turns out that some creators have plenty ideas on what could be next for the series.

Days Gone Director Once Planned An Uncharted Prequel

Telling the team at the Sacred Symbols+ video show (transcribed by VGC), Days Gone's director Jeff Ross revealed that he wanted to be the mind behind an Uncharted prequel game, that charted (hehe) the past of Sully, Nathan Drake's moody mate.

"Victor Sullivan at the age of 25 in a very stylised world where… it would be around 1976 I think is where we figured out his age might be," said Ross of the potential return to the franchise. "He busted out of the Navy for reasons, and I thought seeing him young and trying to figure out his way in this world going from trying to be a soldier or, you know, a military man to now."

Sully Prequel Would Be Influenced By Joker And Tarantino

Ross goes on to explain his aesthetic and atmospheric influences for the game, citing Joker and Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon A Time… in Hollywood as the influence for the focus on, and portrayal of, the 1970s. "That's what I wanted to do without leaning into the cheesy parts of the 70s," he said.

However far along this idea got, it's an interesting one. Who knows if prequels are next on the slate for the Uncharted game series, developers, Naughty Dog have been coy on a potential Uncharted 5, though have admitted to having "several cool things" in the works.
