Death Stranding 2 Fans Worried That Dollman Will Be Annoying

There are plenty of annoying characters in video games, and whether it's hearing Ashley whine in Resident Evil 4 or Claptrap blabbering his nonsense in Borderlands, every moment we spend with them is excruciating. Now, has Hideo Kojima given us the next character we're all going to love to hate?

Given the mind-bending nature of Death Stranding and its grim aesthetic, it's likely not a game you associate with levity. That's all about to change with Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, as the adorable but oddly creepy-looking Dollman looks like he'll be adding some comic relief to things.

Death Stranding 2 players think Dollman will be the new Jar Jar Binks

We still don't know what's going on with Kojima's ambitious sequel to 2019's original, but isn't part of the fun finding out? The game is packed with returning faces, including Norman Reedus' Sam Porter Bridges, Lea Seydoux's Fragile, and Troy Baker's Higgs.

Among the newcomers, we've got George Miller/Marty Rhone playing Tarman and Fatih Akin/Jonathan Roumie as Dollman. The latter has already become a standout from the game's marketing, and in our latest glimpse, we get to find out more about the little fella.

A series of character introductions were shown at Tokyo Game Show, with other new additions like Heartman and Elle Fanning's Tomorrow getting their time to shine. Another clip shows Dollman dancing to a song called "Horizon Dreamer" by Daichi Miura, but unfortunately, it's only made some see him as even more irritating.

Already guessing that Dollman's appeal will quickly wear thin, one critic moaned, "I’m really hoping that the puppet is not a Jar Jar Binks character…. I could see him becoming annoying. Also, really hoping that Sam talks more. The last game he was silent for over half the conversations."

Someone else joked, "The little dude is literally named Dollman. The most original of monikers. If anyone else other than Kojima made this, it would be ridiculed into oblivion," while a third added, "Sounds like he’s gonna be a lore dump like Mimir." Notably, most just laughed at how ridiculous it is to call him Dollman.

In Kojima, we trust, and with his legacy in the video game world, there are high hopes that Death Stranding 2 will top its predecessor. At least in terms of the wacky, Kojima Productions looks like it's already there. Also, let's not pretend that we won't be stoked if the Collector's Edition arrives with a little Dollman to put on our shelves.
