Destiny 2's latest exotic weapons are a week away, but fans are already itching to get their hands on the new Khvostov 7G-0X.

Destiny 2's Final Shape expansion is just six days away (but who's counting, eh?) and it's intended to bring us full circle on the journey we've been on since Destiny 1, closing out the saga of Light and Darkness after ten whole years.

As a nice throwback, Bungie is bringing back the Khvostov Auto Rifle, the gun we first picked up in the Cosmodrome back in 2014 with its shattered scope, and rebuilding it as a new exotic.

Destiny 2's Khvostov is getting fans excited

We've known the Khvostov was returning for a while (we saw it in action in the trailer above almost two weeks ago), but after one user on the Destiny subreddit compared it to another iconic Destiny 1 weapon, fans have been discussing their excitement about its return.

After user atuck217 compared it to the (gone but not forgotten) Zhalo Supercell exotic from the first game, fans have been hyping up the new version of the gun.

"I’m just happy with a kinetic exotic primary that looks potentially decent for add clear," one commenter said (clearly forgetting our lord and saviour, Quicksilver Storm).

"I just hope the Khvostov can use the original model as an ornament, I don't really like the new look," another said, hoping for a classic look (it appears you will be able to make it look like the classic gun).

The history of the Khvostov

Destiny 2 Khvostov exotic weapon

It's worth remembering that we've had an exotic version of the Khvostov before, as part of an exotic quest in Rise of Iron - Destiny 1's final expansion.

This version didn't have an exotic perk but rather a variety of modifiers that could be applied to customise its playstyle.

Including the original, broken version, The Final Shape's Khvostov makes three versions of the gun - but this one is a little different.

With the new exotic, every seventh shot is a ricochet shot that bounces between enemies and deals bonus damage.

I still have fond memories of the Khvostov back in 2014 (starting to feel old as I type this), and I'm excited to get the new version in my hands. As for how we'll get it in the new expansion, we don't know just yet - but we'll have guides handy here on GGRecon when we know for sure.
