Gone are the days of darting around the Call of Duty map, collecting kills and spawn-trapping teams with SMGs in hand. Modern Warfare 2 is not a game for you aggro subs, and instead, it's about to be a campers' paradise - with the developers proud of themselves.

The Call of Duty: Next reveal explained how Infinity Ward defined players into three categories, "Rushers, Hunters, and Sentinels". While rushers and hunters quite well described some of the SMG players and even fast-paced AR mains who love to get in the mix on objectives, Sentinels are quite plain and simple: Campers.

But as Modern Warfare 2 develops in its pre-release beta stage, the dev team at IW has now opened up about its plans to punish rushers for their speed, all in a bid to protect their precious sentinels.

How Will Modern Warfare 2 Protect Campers?

Grab your marshmallows, choccy biccies, and a couple of fire logs. This year, we're erecting tents and making smores. Following on from some consumer feedback after the first Modern Warfare 2 beta weekend, Infinity Ward has opened up on some of the features placed under the microscope.

Taking to a recent blog, Infinity Ward explained its reasonings behind keeping Dead Silence as a field upgrade rather than a perk, as well as having heavy-sounding footsteps and a Ghost perk that only activates with two minutes left in a game.

According to Infinity Ward, the main motive behind having Dead Silence as a Field Upgrade and omitting a Ninja option from the perks is because the "rusher" style of player should face consequences for travelling at such speeds.

"We believe it is important to game health that rushers are not able to move at high speeds without consequence," they explained. "Dead Silence as a Field Upgrade creates a balance between freedom of movement and predictability of combat," Infinity Ward added.

Modern Warfare 2 Deals With Mini-Map 'Fiasco'

These changes are another way of protecting "Sentinels", which comes just after the mini-map fiasco that has left Infinity Ward facing accusations of discrimination. It seems that Modern Warfare 2 is definitely in its learning phase, which is exactly what you'd expect from a title's beta.

Across the board, Infinity Ward is getting some praise (instead of the usual critiques) for actually listening to what fans want from Activision's long-running shooter series. At least players will be able to get plenty of practice with camping in the All Ghillied Up mission, as you wont be needing an SMG any time soon.
