Diablo 4 devs on plans after Vessel of Hatred: "The community has influence over the things that we do"

Diablo 4's first expansion Vessel of Hatred could lead to additional updates down the line - at least if the community is engaged, Blizzard devs told me at Gamescom.

While Diablo 4 has seen five seasonal content updates so far since its launch last year, the team at Blizzard have referred to Vessel of Hatred as the first expansion - suggesting there could be more to follow after.

I sat down with Aislyn Hall, Systems Designer, and Brent Gibson, Associate Game Director, to talk about what the future might hold for the game after the expansion.

"As far as our future plans, we want to have as many players playing this game as possible," Gibson reveals.

"Because the more people that play, the more we get to continue to develop our game. And we obviously talk every day about future plans."

"There's nothing here to announce today," he jokes, "But it's top of mind."

"I mean, as long as the community is engaged, they have influence over the things that we actually do," he admits.

"We're all players of the game, on the team, and so, we're experiencing the same things that the players are, and the same pain points, and the same things that we want to see in the game, too," Hall explains.

"So it's definitely top of our minds, but now, we're focused on getting the Vessel of Hatred out the door, but we're not going to stop there."

For what it's worth, I mentioned one of my big pain points with Diablo 4 at present (needing to unlock additional World Tiers on each character through the Capstone Dungeons), and Gibson noted that it's the kind of feedback the team is listening to.
