Diablo 4 loot drops are stacked against high-level players

Diablo 4 loot drops are causing fan complaints that level scaling isn't exactly up to scratch when it comes to high-level rewards in the game.

The looting is a pretty big part of Diablo 4, and it's a core reason that players turn to it in the first place. The infectious loop of dungeon crawling, monster-slaying, and finding fancy crowns, staffs and swords have been a major draw for the franchise. Players are still loving using, recycling, and selling all of their new kit.

But it seems like there's trouble in paradise with the Diablo 4 loot drops, as players have noticed that loot scaling is tipped against those who have put the most time into the game.

High-level players complain about Diablo 4 loot drops

It seems that even in spite of the assurance of developers that endgame content would be rife, players are still disappointed in the loot they're getting after they've beaten the majority of the game.

Players are reporting that as they reach the upper echelon of levels, they're still not encountering loot that matches them. This means they're having to use items from many levels behind them.

"Don't get me wrong, I want gear to be hard to obtain," says one user in the Diablo4 subreddit. "But for 20+ levels and no upgrades?" The post itself claims that the user is at level 99, but is still having to use items from level 70.

This is likely because the game is built for new characters every season, and they didn't expect so many Level 100 characters - but with such lofty claims about late-game advances, it's still a shame that players can’t find loot that matches them. Unsurprisingly, fans aren't happy.

Diablo IV's antagonist Lillith, scowling

Fans have taken to the comments of the post to report similar situations and to complain about Blizzard's failure to make scaled loot to each player's experience.

"This is why I basically deemed my 75 sorc 'maxed' and rerolled a diff character," reads one comment. "Don't think you're unlucky and it's just a consequence of how they designed it."

"Yeah same I kind of lost interest in grinding once I knew the season was so close," says another. "Got to 80 early and stopped there. I could level a rogue now but at the same time I could just wait till the season and do it there instead."

It's a shame that the game hasn’t been optimised for late-game plays as many had expected - but with the new season just around the corner and you having to create a brand-new character, it looks like we'll just have to put up with it for now.
