Last night's PlayStation State of Play conference sure was… something.
Naturally, as is often the case, fans began to run rampant with theories as to what was coming. Could it be another peek at Hogwarts Legacy? The reveal of a brand new Final Fantasy game? Or could Silent Hills be finally making a comeback?
Well, much to the surprise of the optimistic, we got none of that, in what turned out to be one of the more disappointing showcases in recent memory. However, the show opened with a bang - but one that's confused fans.
State Of Play Reveals Exoprimal
The first game revealed by last night's State of Play show was Exoprimal, a game that looks like a bizarre blend of World War Z and Dino Crisis.
The game's trailer revealed a futuristic city (in the year 2043, to be precise) plagued with giant spherical portals that are dumping ragdolling dinosaurs out all over the place. A group of Exofighters (that's you!) suit up in high-tech armour and take them down, and try to stop them from pouring out from… wherever they're coming from.
The trailer looks bonkers, and the game looks like a lot of fun - but fans are a little confused.
Why Isn't Exoprimal Just A Dino Crisis Game?
Fans are feeling robbed that this title, also developed by Capcom, isn't just serving as a return to form for the classic series Dino Crisis, when realistically, all of the parts are there to make it happen. Long-time fans of the dormant franchise have taken to the internet to voice their complaints, and despite Exoprimal looking like fun, still not being what they were wanting.
Fans are clearly unhappy, but either way, the game looks like a good time. It might not be Dino Crisis, but you know what? By the time Exoprimal comes out, I'm going to be shooting so many dinosaurs, I won't care that there's a difference.
