As part of DOTA 2's applaudable new approach to life, with Crownfall finally injecting life into Valve's MOBA, Act 3 has brought a new minigame to the client.

Sleet Fighter, honorarily named after the iconic Street Fighter franchise, is a 2D fighting game in which DOTA 2's heroes will put their abilities down and get into a good old brawl, throwing hands in a proper scrap.

But while it's only a fun minigame, DOTA 2 players are now calling for Sleet Fighter to be made into a full game to rival Riot Games' 2XKO.

DOTA 2 players demand a full 2D fighting game after new minigame

With the success of Sleet Fighter already, players are hoping that the current limitations of just five heroes can be expanded to a full game, boasting all 124 fighters.

"Please Valve release this as a new Game," one fan said in a post on Reddit.

Others agreed, with a second fan saying, "They really should do a full fighting game. I have tons of fighting game-enjoying friends, many of whom play Dota as well, easy players for ya right there. Just got into GGST recently myself too and it's a lot of fun."

Another fan added, "League has 2XKO. DOTA NEEDS A FIGHTING GAME TOO!"

Valve's DOTA 2 Sleet Fighter gimmick does come in the wake of their rival Riot Games' own 2D fighting game.

Of course, Valve and Riot Games have gone head-to-head multiple times, as DOTA 2 and League of Legends collide in the MOBA genre while Counter-Strike and VALORANT also trade blow for blow in the round-based tactical shooter market.

Maybe a 2D fighting game could be right up Valve's sleeve simply to take the shine off its main competitors, but with its focus weighted largely on the new hero shooter title (seemingly named Deadlock - not to be confused with Deadrop), we probably won't be getting a fully-fledged standalone Sleet Fighter any time soon.
