Having been extra vocal about a string of FPS games in recent months, Herschel "Dr Disrespect" Beahm will be hoping that his studio's upcoming title Deadrop won't be a dead flop.

The doc has been rather critical of Call of Duty and the battle royale Warzone over the last 24 months, being impossible to please at times.

But with his Deadrop game on the horizon, critics are getting equally as vocal, as a new trailer has aired and appears to be more like GTA than an FPS.

New Deadrop trailer ridiculed by FPS fans

Deadrop is set to be a vertical extraction shooter title where players will be forced to elevate themselves and their skills in order to survive, escape, and thrive.

Yet the latest Deadrop snippet has now completely flipped the switch, as Dr Disrespect took to his stream to showcase a 30-second preview of what they have been cooking up, and fans became baffled by the extended use of high-powered cars.

"Bro went from an extraction shooter to a racing game," said Twitch personality "HunterTV".

Other fans instantly claimed this was just GTA.

"This is reminding me of GTA 1," one fan replied, expecting to see Franklin or Michael come as playable characters.

"WTFF. Looks straight ass," added another fan in a popular comment.

Midnight Society designer debunks GTA-Deadrop likeness

Some fans were more hopeful after seeing the snipper, with one fan adding, "So it's Twisted Metal but with a bigger map, seems like it could be a fun game if done right."

But it seems like this isn't actually in the full Deadrop game, and is rather just a pre-match lobby shenanigan which will determine which tower you start in to begin your climb.

"This is how players get from their Hideout (pre-game lobby) to the Refiner State where the Vertical Extraction Shooter takes place," explained Midnight Society's Studio Head Robert Bowling.

"Which path you take determines which part of the tower you’ll start in to begin looting," added the former Call of Duty developer.

Bowling explained that there will be a Creative Mode available which will expand on the vehicle gameplay and add fan-made racing tracks, akin to how Fortnite allows for experimenting.

For Doc though, his bad-mouthing of others might have to be put on pause until Deadrop launches, where it could either prove these GTA-mockery critics wrong or flop, leaving him in a bed of his own making.
