Much like its far less spooky counterpart of Fortnite, the harshest critics will say Dead by Daylight is running out of potential collaborations. As the jumping-off point for all things that go bump in the night, the asymmetrical horror title has stretched across the spectrum of spooks.
We've had everything from Silent Hill to The Ring, picking up some more bizarre crossovers along the way, like a collection of Slipknot-inspired skins. Dead by Daylight has done a lot to keep horror fans happy, but even now, the well of genuine frights could be about to dry up.
Luckily for the team at Behaviour Interactive, there's ingenuity lurking behind the scenes. Dead by Daylight is proving that it doesn't need horror itself to thrive with a sparkly, adventurous new crossover.
Dead by Daylight is collaborating with Dungeons & Dragons
Huh? In a bizarre new turn, it looks as though Dead by Daylight is spreading its scaly wings into the fantasy genre. It's all thanks to a brand-new collaboration with tabletop titan, Dungeons & Dragons.
We don't know what to expect from the collab itself, whether it's a mere collection of Killers and Survivors or a huge overhaul, but players have decoded a teaser from Behaviour Interactive that indicates the huge franchise is coming to the killer's lair.
It's good timing for Dead by Daylight, as Dungeons & Dragons has never been more popular in the gaming world. The successes of Baldur's Gate 3 rocked the industry and proved that fully-fledged, choice-led RPGs could prosper in the era of live-service games.
As Hasbro intends to plough on without the assistance of superstar developers Larian Studios, it's clear that production is only going to get hotter. Though DbD has been criticised by some outside of the horror world for being one-note, this crossover is a pretty strong case for considering the opposite.
We'll take bold crossovers like this any day, and the fact that it's coming to a title as strong as Dead By Daylight makes it all the better. We can't wait to play as a killer gelatinous cube. That almost definitely won't be an option, but hey, we can dream.
