Longing for NBA Street? Dunk City Dynasty, a new mobile basketball title, could be worth a look for your iOS or Android device.

I spent so many hours playing NBA Street Volume 2 when I was younger that I pretty much did very little else. It's a franchise that just never recaptured that magic, though, but I'm always hopeful something will.

I got to check out an early build of Dunk City Dynasty at Gamescom and play a quick 3v3 match. While I'd still rather use a controller, it's a colourful and fast-paced game that keeps that spirit alive.

Slam dunk the funk

If I had a nickel for every time I've seen a cartoonish LeBron James in a video game, I'd have two nickels, but it's weird it's happened twice.

Alongside his MultiVersus appearance, King James himself appears here in more familiar surroundings, and he's not alone thanks to NBPA licensing. This means global superstars like Steph Curry and Kevin Durant are also here.

Far from the glitzy stadia of reality, matches take place on colourful courts with baying supporters on all sides, with dramatic dunks. Players can collect players, level them, and customize them with wild new outfits.

The 11v11 match type is quick to get into and only lasts a few minutes, and while I can't speak for the monetisation as yet, I'm excited to give it another go (preferably on iPad).

Dunk City Dynasty will have a closed beta in the coming months, and players can pre-register now.
