Electronic Arts has been one of the central companies in gaming for some time, and though there are many that have brought its practices into question, they've kept their home there.

The gaming giant has made a name for itself by leading the charge on microtransactions, making much of its revenue from additional cosmetic items in games that have already sold for full price. Even though players have had plenty to say on the matter, it won't stop EA.

Now, EA has something to say about the future of AI in video games - painting an interesting picture for the future of Battlefield, EA FC, Madden, and more.

EA's boss talks AI in gaming

An executive at EA has gone on record to speak of the power of Artificial Intelligence, and has commented that it could play a big role in the way that video games are made.

In conversation with Bloomberg, Laura Miele suggested that EA has always been a "native AI entertainment company," making reference to the original Madden game, but she suggests that a "new phase for AI" in gaming is on the way.

"It's definitely going to optimize what we have for tools and workflows and help our developers, and players, create better experiences," says Miele. "It's also going to be a significant expander of content and frequency and how we show up [on the market]."

Miele seems to dismiss previous concerns from EA CEO Andrew Wilson, who said AI leading to a "fear of displacement of the workforce" was an issue. He said that there could also be "meaningful increases" in jobs further down the line, and now, it sounds like EA is going all in on AI.

EA said the same thing about NFTs

Though this might be concerning for some when it comes to the quality of content in games that have been generated by AI, it might not be worth panicking just yet. Remember that EA said similar things about NFTs, and it's actually still trying to make them work.

EA Sports revealed back in June that EA Sports FC and Madden would come to feature integration with .Swoosh, a marketplace that manages the sale of Non-Fungible Tokens.

Maybe it'll take the same lack of interest to prove to EA that content generated by AI isn't that riveting to fans, but we're just going to have to wait and see what happens in this case. There might be a future in gaming with AI, yes - but only time will tell if it's sustainable.
