FIFA always skirted the border of 'gambling' with its Ultimate Team game mode, where packs were often considered rather taboo from the outside world.

The randomness of paid packs has often been criticised by outside bodies and even FIFA fans themselves, who often see hard-earned cash go to waste with mediocre rewards from paid bundles.

EA FC 24 had the opportunity to use the rebrand to change this, but still, the packs persist, and less than a week after its full launch, fans are already slamming the "ridiculous" pay-to-win elements.

The problem with packs is that nothing is guaranteed - your money is being gambled on a probability method, and even then, the rating system doesn't reflect the monetary value of the cards you secure.

And just a few days after Ultimate Team's release, EA has placed a whopping 80+x45 pack (45 players all rated 80 and over) in the store worth 3,000 FIFA points ($30), and fans are taking up an issue with it.

"This is f*****g ridiculous. It's day 3 of full release and we have an 80+x45," one fan said on Reddit.

Another added, "It's 30 pound, there is absolutely no way it should be normalised for people to spend that amount of money on a game which is already overpriced.

EA FC 24 Streamers claim they've been done 'dirty' with massive pay-to-win pack

It's clear to see that this incredibly pricey pack is pioneering pay-to-win methods in EA FC 24, given then most players will have to grind through the levels to earn such highly rated cards that definitely make your team better.

Content creator AuzioMF even claimed that they've been "done dirty" by the pack, as you only have a 5% chance of landing a 90-rated player and a 10% chance of getting a special card (Road to the Knockouts).

Others, on the opposite side of gambling's lucky coin flip, have landed players such as Mbappe from this pack, only incentivising more players to try their hand, hoping to replicate this luck.

Many countries have already began passing laws against these types of loot boxes though, and it might finally be time for EA to ditch the packs and figure out a fairer way of adding microtransactions.
