We're sorry to report that your Perfume Bottle builds have been firmly sent back to a Site of Grace. FromSoftware has rolled out its latest Elden Ring patch, and while most are already deep in the guts of its Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, the quest to unlock Miquella's secret has just taken a hit.
You know what you're getting with FromSoft games, and when it came to the base Elden Ring, it was a gruelling ordeal up there with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Shadow of the Erdtree has raised the difficulty even more, with many begging Hidetaka Miyazaki for some form of easy mode.
SPOILER WARNING:
Late-game spoilers have been mentioned and discussed below. Proceed with caution.
Shadow of the Erdtree patch nerfs your favourite build
The first Shadow of the Erdtree patch addressed some of the complaints about the DLC being "too hard" with a buff to early Scadutree Blessings, but just as Miyazaki giveth, Miyazaki taketh away. The latest patch notes for Shadow of the Erdtree are out, and we're sorry to say that your Perfume Bottle build is a thing of the past.
Shadow of the Erdtree's Perfume Bottles have been branded as 'broken', as it was easy to cheese your way through the game. There are numerous videos online of Promised Consort Radahn being turned to dust thanks to combining a Lightning Perfume Bottle with the Rolling Sparks Ash of War.
In the patch notes, FromSoftware writes, "Fixed a bug that caused the Rolling Sparks Skill to deal more damage than expected." Nerfing this handy hack into the ground, players have taken to the replies to lament the loss of the ultimate Elden Ring cheat code.
One dismayed Tarnished wrote, "Sh*t they nerfed the perfume Rolling Sparks," while another added, "Should've not nerfed perfume😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔I haven't beaten Radahn." A third said, "Damn rolling sparks might be cooked after this," and someone concluded, "Perfume bottles my beloved…."
While Elden Ring purists won't be too fussed by the changes, those who used it for a much-needed leg-up will be heading back to the depths of Reddit to find the next workaround. Perfume Bottles gave us the sweet smell of victory for a while, but now, something stinks in the Land of Shadow.
