Elden Ring Glitch Makes The Game's Hardest Boss Impossible To Kill

FromSoftware
While it was once Alexander the Pot Guy who was the poster boy of FromSoftware's Elden Ring, it's Malenia who has emerged as the sweaty Souls-like's very own Lady Dimitrescu. Standing up to all the Margits, Radahns, and Mohgs, she's taken the crown as the game's hardest boss.
The Malenia boss fight has arguably overtaken Elden Ring itself, with the developers playing a delicate balancing act of buffs and nerfs to make sure that she's the right balance between an epic end of game boss, and forcing players to throw their controller at the screen in rage. She's bad enough as is, but imagine if she became an unkillable killing machine.
Is Malenia Invincible?
Putting on her best Russian accent to impersonate Boris from GoldenEye, Malenia is defiantly shouting "I'm invincible" at some. When you're 100+ hours into Elden Ring and Malenia pops up as an optional boss, you might feel like throwing in the towel and bathing your blistered hands instead. So, perish the thought that you realise you'll never be able to defeat her.
An unfortunate Elden Ring glitch is plaguing Malenia and making it impossible for her to enter her second phase - where she takes on her Queen of Rot mantle. On the Elden Ring subreddit, a growing number of players are reporting that using a specific counter against Malenia will stop her from entering her second phase - making her an OP terror for the Tarnished.
The well-known parry method is an effective way of deflecting Malenia's barrage of attacks, and neatly opens her up for the chance to critical and chip away at her health bar. Unfortunately, you might be wise to avoid parrying when trying to enter Phase Two. Otherwise, you'll be stuck in a never-ending loop of Malenia madness.
Does Elden Ring Have No Mercy?
The comments make for some interesting reading, and although parrying is a possible way of besting Souls-like bosses, you've been warned. One angry gamer grumbled, "Ugh... why I can't parry at all in this game. I used parries all over Bloodborne. I beat Sekiro 4x and platinum, a game that is basically Parry Souls. In Elden Ring, I pathetically flail by pathetic shield into the ether, only to get embarrassingly stomped by everything."
In reality, it's suggested that this gruelling glitch is likely a failsafe to stop a second glitch that drains Malenia's health as soon as she enters her second phase. Others claim that it's possible to trigger her second phase if you use a blade with status effects like bleed or frostbite, but that will also take some serious prep. So there we have it, parry-only runs of Elden Ring might be physically impossible. We think even the legendary Let Me Solo Her would struggle with this one.
