One Elden Ring player is threatening to sue FromSoftware, claiming that the 2022 Soulsborne is unfairly hard to complete and is hiding content behind its difficultly.

When you step into any FromSoftware game, let's be honest: you know what you're getting. From Dark Souls to Bloodborne and beyond, the studio's games are palm-shreddingly hard, and we're still having nightmares about Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

Elden Ring was no different when it took us into the Lands Between in 2022, with its Shadow of the Erdtree DLC somehow dialling up the difficulty even more in 2024. As soon as the Tree Sentinel pummeled us we knew we were in trouble, but then again, that's what you came here for.

Elden Ring player threatens to sue over the game's difficulty

As reported by MP1st, one disgruntled Elden Ring player is sick of being sent back to a Site of Grace, taking to 4chan to explain their grand plans to sue FromSoftware. We question the validity of the claim thanks to 4chan's sketchy nature, although it seems legitimate for now.

The OP claims to be taking legal action against FromSoftware and Elden Ring publisher Bandai Namco on September 25. They maintain that some of the many bits of cut content dataminers have uncovered are actually part of a hidden game. Elden Ring is supposedly so hard that no one has been able to access this 'hidden game.'

We've heard of some out-there court cases, but claiming that the devs have gone to the lengths of hiding a whole new game behind an inaccessible wall of difficulty is a new one. At the time of writing, FromSoftware hasn't responded to the case. The problem is, if these games weren't as hard as they are, they wouldn't have the fandom they do.

Elden Ring's difficulty is par for the course, with FromSoftware purposefully putting its DLC behind a certain level of difficulty to ensure you're at a suitable level to take on the gruelling Land of Shadow. FromSoft's Hidetaka Miyazaki has warned we'll never get an Elden Ring easy mode, so it sounds like it's a case of 'git gud'.

If anything, the challenge of Souldborne games is what lures so many people to them. Streamer Kai Cenat is no stranger to how hard these games are, making serious bank as we see him die over and over again, while others love finding the latest OP build to take on Promised Consort Radahn. We're not judges, but somehow, we don't see this case going very far.
