For many, the fun of a good video game is enjoying it with others. Whether that be someone sitting next to you and watching you polish off that final boss, jumping into a multiplayer deathmatch, or teaming up and taking it on with co-op.

While FromSoftware's Elden Ring has made its mark as one of the best video games of all time, it wasn't quite perfect. With the fantasy epic's limited co-op through the form of summons, and your pals being then booted out after a boss had been bested, it was over to modders to do the hard graft.

FromSoftware teases a Seamless Co-op future

Giving us a full-blown co-op experience, the infamous Seamless Co-op mod is regarded by players as a 'proper' way of doing it. Instead of being against the idea, it seems FromSoftware is embracing our love of Elden Ring's Seamless Co-op mod, even teasing its inclusion in future titles.

Speaking to PC Gamer, FromSoftware overlord Hidetaka Miyazaki was reminded how Seamless Co-op lets you and your friends play an uninterrupted multiplayer experience. "It's definitely not something we actively oppose or want to downplay, wanting to go through the whole game together," said Miyazaki.

As for why it wasn't included in Elden Ring, Miyazaki continued, "It was simply a case of wanting that more loose, casual style—drop in, defeat a boss, drop out. It doesn't put any technical restrictions on the player, it just sort of lets them complete this focus and then move on, so to speak."

Still, the Seamless Co-op mod might've spurred FromSoft into considering a 'true' multiplayer experience in future titles. "That's not to say we won't consider other ways like you and your friend played, from beginning to end, total co-op—that's not to say we won't consider ideas like that with our future games."

Miyazaki stops short of confirming exactly what those future games will be, but with hype surrounding Elden Ring set to rise again thanks to its Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, we're sure those whispers of an Elden Ring sequel will surface again.

PC Gamer notes that Elden Ring's official co-op was an improvement on the rough system we saw in Dark Souls, so it's clear the devs are learning from the past. Considering the Seamless Co-op mod had 3.6 million downloads on Nexus Mods (over twice as many as the next most popular), FromSoft is wise to see its benefits.

We included Seamless Co-op on our list of Elden Ring's best mods, and if you aren't playing the game this way, can you say you're experiencing Elden Ring at its best? After all, we could all use a hand taking on Malenia.
