There was little doubt that EA FC 24 would be an absolute banger. Even though we faced a pretty massive name change from FIFA, the core of the game remained the same with some new features to boot.
Players have been loving the new era of football from EA Sports. It's different, but its certainly not worse. Now, it seems as though EA has the numbers to back it up our presumptions. Kind of.
EA Sports FC 24 reports huge player numbers
EA has claimed that its return to the football pitch has been massively successful (via GamesIndustry.biz), sharing that the game has earned "more than 11.3 million players worldwide, including though EA Play."
Couple this with 11.2 million EA Sports FC Mobile players in the first 10 days - and 2.2 million downloads on its launch day - those rumbles of a troubled launch for the franchise rebrand might sound like they've been exaggerated.
The news is revealed in stark contrast to the player numbers that the company revealed in the first week of last year's FIFA 23, which garnered 10.3 million players in its first week - though there is one difference.
EA Play was omitted from the player number reveal then, which has led to the thought that maybe EA Sports is using the number of players who have merely jumped into the game to give it a try to bolster its numbers. Even so, EA seems pretty happy about it.
EA Sports 'thrilled' with player numbers
"We're thrilled to have so many fans jumping into The World’s Game in both EA Sports FC 24 and FC Mobile in just the first few days since launch," comments Cam Weber, the president of EA Sports.
Weber continued, "In addition to welcoming back millions of our longtime players, new players in FC 24 are up nearly 20% year over year, showing the excitement of football fans everywhere to join the Club. We are building the world’s biggest football community through EA Sports FC, and we’re just getting started."
With EA FC 24 also boasting the honour of having the UK's second-biggest retail launch of the year, it sounds like a win. It's probably fair to say that the sporting sim is hugely successful by now, but if EA Sports is embellishing its numbers with EA Play trials, then who knows - we could be about to see an interesting downtick.
