The Doom franchise is undoubtedly one of the most crucial in the world of gaming. Though it might seem like any other boomer shooter on the surface, the propulsion it offered the FPS genre is unlike any other. In many ways, John Romero and his team allowed the genre to flourish.

More than its legacy in defining FPS games, Doom is an incredibly good time. Doom and its follow-ups are practically all dynamite, and though they've transformed into the ultra-violence simulators they were always destined to be, the series is iconic for more reasons than we can count. Now, one of its hidden gems is coming to PC for free.

How Can You Get Doom 64 For Free?

Epic Games Is Giving Away Doom For Free

Epic Games is continuing its generosity in giving players free games every once in a while - and this time around, it's giving away Doom 64. The game debuted back in 1997 and served as the only Doom experience on the N64.

Although Doom 64 was criticised for a lack of new gameplay when compared to its predecessors, it helped to further realise the original game's ambitions as a 3D shooter experience. Luckily, though, it's not just the base game that players will be bagging for free. Epic is giving you the 2020 overhaul that added native 60 FPS support and enhanced visuals.

Epic's free release of Doom 64 also packs with it the lost levels that didn't make it to the final game in the first place, which helps to complete Doom 64's story (if the story is what you show up to a Doom game for). Log in to your Epic Games account to get it, but be warned, you don't have long to bag Doom 64

Doom 64 Won't Be Free For Long

If you were thinking of picking up Doom 64 while it's on offer (you most definitely should), then you might want to act fast, as it won't be around for long. The game, as well as the Rumbleverse Boom Boxer Content Pack, will be available for free on the Epic Games Store until August 25, at which point Ring of Pain will be the new free title.

If the game is something you fancy, then pounce now - and don't worry if your PC gaming setup isn't up to snuff. If Doom can run on tractors, pregnancy tests, and even Lego bricks, it can run on your shoddy laptop. Get ready to blast demonic scum with the heady nostalgia of the '90s ringing in your ears.
