It sounds like Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is set to continue to gather "steam" as the colourful battle royale/party game has shifted a whopping 2,000,000 copies on Steam - just days after its launch.

The adorable little game is everywhere right now and Mediatonic is onto a winner. With celebrities including Soulja Boy trying their hand, and CD Projekt Red joking about a Fall Guys-Witcher crossover, its a hot topic right now.

While there are fears Fall Guys could burn out quickly, there's no escaping its superstar status right now. Even if this one is the latest fad and its player base will slowly die off, 2,000,000 copies sold on Steam in less that a week is quite the feat.

Fall Guys explodes in popularity on Steam

The basic premise of Fall Guys is to compete in a massive group of 60 players. As rounds progress and the number of participants tumbles, it's a race to the finish to (quite literally) grab the crown. Although there are some team games, the majority of Fall Guys is you versus another 59 ravenous players.

Remembering that it was so popular during its August 4 release that it crashed the servers, is it any real surprise it's shifted so many copies on Steam?

In the first week alone, a whopping 60 million of those little guys have fallen to their doom as 1.5 million crowns have been captured. With all of this, it's has nabbed over 23 million collective hours of viewing on streaming services.

Where else is Fall Guys available?

Aside from its Steam release, Fall Guys is free-to-play on the PlayStation 4 for those who have PlayStation Plus.

As some fans have pointed out, the fact that the game has sold so many on Steam is astonishingly considering it can also be picked up on PS4. Someone also said that depending on which edition gamers bought, Fall Guys made at least $31,980,000 on Steam alone

The battle royale market is pretty packed right now, but you've got to admit, Fall Guys has something different. Combining the cartoonish style of Fortnite with retro appeal of shows like Takeshi's Castle and it seems we just can't get enough.

Although it might be hard to see how this could evolve into an esport given its mechanics, there are already calls for the wide world of esports to embrace this new arrival. In the meantime, expect to see Fall Guys' sales continue to climb
