Fallout: London looks like it’s rising from the grave

After looking like it was going on an indefinite hiatus, the supersized Fallout: London mod is finally back in the works, with the devs promising it's coming 'soon'.

Is anyone for tea and crumpets? It sounds like we're nearly ready for a jolly old time in Blighty. After seemingly kicking the bucket thanks to Bethesda's surprise unveiling of the new-gen Fallout 4 update, Fallout: London is rising from the grave like a Union Jack-wearing Ghoul.

The Fallout series is one of gaming's hottest IPs, and while we have no problem with enjoying the Americana of this nostalgia-trapped franchise, some feel Bethesda isn't realising the potential of an apocalyptic adventure in other corners of the globe.

Fallout: London is coming 'soon'

Bethesda boss Todd Howard has already said the series has no plans to leave the USA, leaving fanciful hopes of a far-flung Fallout dashed. Thankfully, the fans themselves aren't willing to limit the series, with the renound Fallout: London project being the most ambitious yet.

There are plenty of supersized Fallout 4 mods out there, like the Capital Wasteland mod remastering Fallout 3 inside the game, Project Arroyo reimagining Fallout 2, and Fallout: Miami taking us somewhere sunnier. Still, Fallout: London being the size of the base Fallout 4 map but boasting a completely new locale is quite the achievement.

While Fallout: London looked like it had been locked up in its own Vault-Tec vault, PCGamer reports that it's back in action. The Fallout: London X and Discord servers explain: "There has been a lot of speculation regarding our upcoming release, and we wanted to open up and clear the air for our core supporters."

The announcement explains how Team FOLON is "waiting for the final green light" from GOG to set the mod wild in the Wasteland. "Once they've completed the process of double-checking that Fallout: London and its installer work on all supported machines, we should be good to go," continues the statement.

There will apparently be a "downgrade" included with the installer, which should hopefully prevent future Bethesda updates screwing with Fallout: London. Team FOLON concluded, "It is in all of our interests that this final QA process is carried out in full, and we are very thankful that GOG is assisting … The end is in sight."

As Fallout: London is too big to be hosted on Nexus Mods, it's at the mercy of GOG. Still, with the end in sight, we're hopefully not far away from finally experiencing this new corner of the Falloutverse. Fallout: London started work all the way back in 2019, and all these years later, that tiny acorn is now (hopefully) an apocalyptic oak tree.
