Thanks to an Xbox Series S|X feature, fans of the Fallout franchise are able to play an essentially remastered version of Fallout: New Vegas. Better yet, the game can be played for basically free thanks to Xbox Game Pass.

New Vegas is widely considered to be one of the best games in the Fallout franchise but, having been released in 2010, it suffers from dated graphics which can make it less accessible than newer releases.

While Fallout: New Vegas has been on the list of games that can be boosted for over a year now, it is a fact worth revisiting in the face of Starfield's upcoming release and the never-ending wait for an official remake.

Fans have wanted a Fallout New Vegas remaster for a long time

It’s been 13 years since Fallout: New Vegas was first released and since then there have been several rumours that a remake or remaster of the beloved game would be coming at some point.

As pointed out by gamingbible, while there is no official remaster of the fan-favourite RPG, Xbox Series X comes with a feature that makes the Fallout: New Vegas play like a much more recent release.

Xbox’s game boost feature increases the FPS of older games, unbinding titles from their original locked framerates, so that they can be played at 60 FPS on consoles.

For long-time fans of the game who want to revisit it, or new players who want to get stuck into a classic RPG, Xbox Series S|X might be the best way to experience it at this point in time. Even better for players with Game Pass, the game can be played in its higher FPS state for free.

Is an official Fallout New Vegas remaster coming?

While nothing has been announced regarding an official remaster, there have been multiple suggestions in the past that both Bethesda and Obsidian are interested in a remake, or even a sequel, being released in the future.

In a new interview with TheGamer, Obsidian game directors Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky shared that they were enthusiastic about a remake of the game being made.

Cain said: "Not that it's up to me, but wouldn't a graphical remaster of Fallout New Vegas be awesome?" Boyarsky agreed: "It would be awesome".

Similarly, on the GrubbSnax podcast, Jeff Grubb suggested that people at Microsoft may have been talking about the potential for a New Vegas 2.

He said: "This is very early, but people have begun to have talks and say these words in sentences. And those words are 'Obsidian' and 'New Vegas 2'.

"We're talking years and years away. But I will say there’s at least an interest and conversations being had about making something like that actually a reality."

While there is disappointingly no news regarding an official, from-the-ground-up remaster at this point, the ability to revisit the Mojave desert with higher FPS and sharper graphics is an exciting one. If the Starfield hype has you looking to delve into an impressive Bethesda RPG, Fallout: New Vegas might be worth revisiting.
