There's no stopping the runaway train of live-action video game adaptations, and while we once had an abysmal House of the Dead movie or The Rock in Doom, there's (thankfully) been something of a renaissance. Sure, Paramount's Halo had its problems, but HBO's The Last of Us showed us how to do it.
An impressive slate of upcoming adaptations includes Return to Silent Hill, God of War, Five Nights at Freddy's, Ghost of Tsushima, and more. Of all of them, there's a vault full of fans who can't wait for Amazon's live-action Fallout series.
Live-action Fallout series leaks aren't impressing everyone
We've known about Amazon's Fallout series for a while, but apart from a generic teaser trailer, there's been no real look at what's going on in the Wasteland. It's been over to leakers to give us the 411, with an interesting look at Ghouls giving us a hint at what sort of vibe we're going for.
Set photos from the Fallout series have appeared on Twitter, with mixed opinions on what you'll get. There's nothing too revelatory here, with what looks like a raider and some sort of Vault-Tec compound. Those familiar with Bethesda's games will know the importance of Vault-Tec and its potentially antagonistic presence.
Despite being headed up by Westworld showrunner Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, not everyone is sold on the Fallout series. One critic wrote, "This looks incredibly low budget," while another grumbled, "Can't wait to see how much they f**k it up."
Considering Amazon is responsible for The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Powers - as the most expensive TV series of all time - someone concluded, "Hopefully this won't suck as bad as their take on Lord of the Rings." Others called out comparisons with Apple TV's Silo.
Who is in the Fallout series?
Despite Fallout having seemingly wrapped filming in March, there's been little in terms of official materials. We're also yet to see any of the main cast. If you remember leaks from HBO's The Last of Us, we could barely move without finding spoilerific teases of Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal.
Fallout has an impressive cast that includes Twin Peaks' Kyle MacLachlan and Yellowjacket's Ella Purnell, with the latter expected to be the lead. Ant-Man and the Wasp Walton Goggins is also attached, with his character confirmed to be a Ghoul.
The ongoing writer's strike has largely stalled Hollywood, although we're hoping the live-action Fallout series can still make its rumoured release in the first half of 2024. There are always going to be haters, but we hope Amazon can turn that vocal minority around when we get a first real look at Fallout in action.
