While we know Treyarch is working on Black Ops 6 in 2024, Call of Duty fans are convinced the developer is also readying a Black Ops 2 remake for release in 2025.

How do you top what's arguably the greatest Call of Duty game of all time? According to Treyarch's plans, that seems to be 2024's Black Ops 6, delivering a long-awaited sequel (and semi-prequel) to the 2012 shooter.
While it's true there have been some great and not-so-great entries in the CoDverse, Black Ops 2 stands above most for its multiplayer alone. We heard about a mythical Black Ops 2 remaster months ago, but with this being before Black Ops 6 was locked in as the next mainline title, the news was largely buried.
Treyarch sparks hopes of Black Ops 2 remake in 2025
Now, it looks like those whispers of a Black Ops 2 refresh in 2025 could be on the money. As pointed out by CharlieIntel, it seems every page for every Black Ops page on the CallofDuty.com site now directs to Black Ops 6. Well, that's every page aside from Black Ops 2.
With Black Ops 6's preorders now live and it already soaring up the charts, it makes sense that the other Black Ops pages lead here. We'll admit it's strange that Black Ops 2 is being left behind, unless it's being saved for some later reveal.
Although this could be a simple oversight, players in the replies are taking this and running with it. One simply wrote, "Bo2 remake incoming 👀," while another added, "They're definitely remaking BO2 and taking the choice based decisions out of it to make the timeline more *clearly* linear."
Not everyone one was sold, as one concerned gamer said, "To be clear BO2 campaign was a masterpiece. If they f**k it up by doing a remake like Infinity Ward did with the reboot of the MW franchise it's gonna be bad." Someone else concluded, "They know bo2 was the best and planning big things with their masterpiece game. I hope they don't ruin the remake if there ever will be one."
Remasters, remakes, sequels, and more
It's not like there isn't the fan demand there, and previously, we've covered a massive petition calling for a Black Ops 2 remake. If only for the Zombies offering alone, we'd happily throw our money at a return to the world of Black Ops 2.
Elsewhere, we reported on the idea that Call of Duty 2025 will be a Black Ops 2 sequel. The timelines are pretty confusing, with Black Ops 6 taking place between Black Ops 2's flashback and future missions, although remember that Treyarch isn't officially locked in for back-to-back games.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves, and with Black Ops 6 still yet to be released, we'll have to see how that performs. Then again, it's already looking like it could be the biggest Call of Duty yet, and if it sets the stage for a reason to revisit Black Ops 2 in any form, we'll take it.
