Has Sony executed its own Order 66 on the troubled Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake, killing off the PlayStation-exclusive Star Wars title like a room full of helpless Younglings? The writing was already on the wall for the new-gen revamp of Darth Revan's story, and now, we fear the worst.

With BioWare's 2003 classic being held as one of the greatest video games of all time, you could only imagine the hype when Aspyr announced it was working on a remake in 2021. Sadly, after release dates fluctuated and Aspyr was replaced by Saber Interactive, a new update could be the final nail in the coffin.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic might've been axed

When the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake was announced during September 2021's PlayStation showcase, the glossy teaser trailer was a welcome surprise. Unfortunately, Sony has gone on the assault to scrub all references from it online.

As well as hiding the Knights of the Old Republic teaser on the official Sony YouTube channel, the gaming giant has been deleting tweets related to the remake. Over on Twitter, @Crusader3456 wrote a thread proving how the KOTOR remake is slowly being erased.

With a massive restructuring at Saber owner Embracer Group, there are mounting fears that the Knights of the Old Republic remake has been another victim of these changes in the Force. It's possible that it's a simple error from someone at Sony, but when Kotaku reached out for comment, there's (currently) been no response.

Knights of the Old Republic is a hot IP

Knights of the Old Republic Revan

If the Knights of the Old Republic remake is dead in the water, it would mark the end of a troubled timeline. In 2022, Bloomberg reported that the Aspyr team had spent a tonne of money and resources on a proof-of-concept demo. It wasn't up to scratch, with development being passed to Saber in Europe.

Knights of the Old Republic might have a legacy on par with Anakin Skywalker, but it's also as tormented. Despite the successes of KOTOR 2, plans for a third game fell through. The 2008 book Rogue Leaders: The Story of LucasArts includes impressive concept art for a new character called Naresha and a Mandalorian city.

While we're not sure if we'll ever see KOTOR 3, a potential live-action adaptation of the series seems increasingly likely. In 2019, Lucasfilm overlord Kathleen Kennedy told MTV that there was something live-action in the works. Unfortunately, it still hasn't appeared on the ever-changing Star Wars slate.

Star Wars games are multiplying like a clone army these days, but as the likes of Star Wars Outlaws and Star Wars Eclipse prepare to draw their lightsabers, the two suns of Tatooine could be setting on Knights of the Old Republic for now.
