Despite promises that Call of Duty would be taking a bit of a breather to go away and gather its thoughts, Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 quickly led into Sledgehammer Games' Modern Warfare 3. There are complaints that CoD has lost its way amidst increasingly wild pop-culture crossovers, but this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Treyarch is back in the saddle for 2024's Black Ops 6, and with 2020's Black Ops Cold War being held as the best in the modern CoD era, there are high hopes that the developer can deliver once again. Black Ops 6 is already being hyped as a reinvention of the series, but for fans, there's a long wishlist of things it needs to succeed.

Black Ops 6 wishlist highlights problems with the series

Over on Reddit, u/ultraopulent laid out an extensive wishlist of things they'd like to see in Black Ops 6. All the usual suspects were here, with improved servers and RICOCHET anti-cheat, non-disbanding lobbies, and an overhaul on SBMM/EOMM. With MW3 being especially hindered by its matchmaking, this is a must.

The Redditor goes on to share their own personal hopes for Black Ops 6, highlighting a return of more realistic skins, in-game voice chat, and a two-year cycle. As much as we'd like to see what Treyarch could do with a fully realised Black Ops 6 spread across two years, there's already talk about CoD 2025 being a futuristic Black Ops 2 sequel.

Others waded into the debate and gave their thoughts on what Black Ops 6 needs to live up to its own hype. One simply joked, "No goofy skins. That’s the whole wishlist," while another added, "Get rid of SBMM [Skill-based matchmaking]- that would make this game legendary." Personally, we just want to see Treyarch bring Zombies back from the grave.

A third said, "Blackout to return, in all its updated glory, with guns/attachments laying all around for me to assemble/disassemble as I wish," begging for the return of the underrated battle royale mode. Someone simply joked, "A playable game that isn’t broken on release," echoing a lot of the current complaints.

We know that Treyarch is always watching, but unfortunately, making a wishlist of things we want to see will undoubtedly leave most disappointed. It would be impossible for the team to implement everyone's wishes. Still, with MW3's reviews being a crash course on how not to deliver a classic CoD, we hope some lessons have been learned.
