Fans unsatisfied with 'ugly' weekly challenge skin in MW3

The latest weekly skin in Modern Warfare 3 has left fans unhappy, with many claiming that the 'ugly' skin isn't worth the eight-week-long grind required to obtain it.

While the challenge itself is, of course, a part of the reward - you'd expect that the skin at the end of eight whole weeks of challenges is good enough to justify the grind.

Unfortunately, this doesn't seem like the case at all, as the latest overall weekly challenge camo has been branded as 'ugly' by the Modern Warfare 3 player base.

Some players don't seem too bothered by it, with the prospect of a free skin being enough motivation in of itself -  but much of the sentiment is geared towards time being wasted, despite the reward being clear from the get-go.

Weekly challenge camo seen as just another skin

Modern Warfare 3 is home to some of the best-looking skins in the Call of Duty franchise, with options like the Interstellar camo among other Mastery grinds among the fan base's favourites.

However, the latest weekly challenge camo reward has caused quite a stir in the community, with Reddit user Halloween_Nyx posting a thread lovingly titled, "How is this the camo reward for doing 8 weeks of weekly challenges?"

They go on to admit that they "knew it looked like this since it was in each of the weekly tabs," but then slam the skin by stating, "Man is thing ugly."

It wasn't exactly hidden by Activision with the player base remaining unknowing of what exactly they were grinding towards, but that doesn't really seem to remove how painfully mediocre this weapon camo appears for so many users.

"This s*** looks like a camo you'd get for getting 50 kills with a base weapon," remaked one user, with another claiming that "the free bomb camo we got this week is better than this."

While the skin certainly isn't awful, nor does it look out of place in the current Call of Duty landscape - it just doesn't hold up to what players expect from a skin that takes so much time to earn. It's not animated, nor does it look distinct enough from the rest, so you might want to skip the grind this time around.

Should we really complain about free skins?

On the flip side, some players aren't that concerned about the quality of the skin, and instead, just appreciate getting a skin for free in the first place.

"Another day, another post complaining about free items" is the sentiment from one user who thinks that the community undervalues the amount of free items that Activision give out to players for simply playing the game.

You could also look at it from the perspective of players who simply just enjoy completing the challenges, as one comment declares, "I don't do the challenges for the reward… I do them just for something else to do."

The player base is certainly split on this subject -  but at the end of it, you can always choose to not do the challenges if you don't like the reward or the journey along the way.
