2023 has been so jam-packed that if you weren't a big part of its community, it'd be easy enough to forget that Final Fantasy 16 came out this year. That's certainly not to decry the game, though, as it was a stonking entry into the long-standing series.

Final Fantasy 16 made such an impact on fans, they're desperate to know what's next for Clive Rosfield and if he's going to be getting any sequels or spin-offs. However, it looks like the well has run dry on this story in particular.

Yoshi-P says we're probably not getting FF16 sequels

It has been claimed by the man in the big chair at Final Fantasy HQ that we probably shouldn't get our hopes up for any more additions to Clive's story beyond the upcoming The Rising Tide DLC.

Producer extraordinaire Naoki "Yoshi-P" Yoshida mentioned the prospect of new games starring the characters and story of Final Fantasy 16, and claimed that we're not likely to get anything new unless it comes in the form of DLC - which is already in the works.

Speaking with Famitsu, Yoshi-P said that "the development team for [Final Fantasy 16] has been disbanded apart from the main DLC team, so at the least, we are not expecting to make a sequel or spin-off."

On bonus FF16 content, Yoshi-P would "rather not say anything definite"

Continuing on his understanding of the potential sub-series that Final Fantasy 16 has created, Yoshi-P has said that he doesn’t expect anything more, but equally, he doesn't seem to want to rule anything out.

"If you ask me if there will be anything related to FF16 in the future, I don’t know," added the franchise overlord. "Since I don't know what will happen, I'd rather not say anything definite."

It looks like there are no plans right now for a continuation of Final Fantasy 16, but who knows what the future may hold. With the breakout success of Clive and voice actor Ben Starr being the man of the moment, here's hoping Mr. Rosfield isn't done just yet.
