It's true that Final Fantasy has had one hell of a year. The launch of Final Fantasy XVI was met with love around the world, and the franchise proved that its strengths weren't exclusive to its passionate remakes. Those remakes, though, were revealed to be in for a treat.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is officially on the way, bringing with it the next chapter in the extended edition of the classic game. Evven though there are extensions to be added to the game even further, it looks like it ends with the core game this time around. Sorry, you aren't getting a Final Fantasy 7 DLC.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has no DLC planned
It has been confirmed that Square Enix currently has no plans to add any Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth DLC. In an interview with Vandal, Game Director Tetsuya Nomura confirmed that the members of the team building the game "are not planning any DLC for this instalment."
This makes a change from the first edition of the remake, which eventually launched Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade with new missions starring fan-favourite character Yuffie.
It's interesting to see that the team has no plans to expand its expansion, but then again, with the game already packing plenty new content into what we already know and expect, it's hard to know what the team would add to the game.
Why is there no Final Fantasy VII Rebirth DLC?
Nomura offered no kind of reasoning for the lack of DLC coming to the game - but it'd be safe to presume that the expected size and scale of the game is going to have something to do with it.
It has been said by members of the Square Enix team that it'll take about 100 hours for players to experience everything that the new Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has to offer, dramatically expanding upon the scale of the first instalment of the remake.
Let's also remember that doesn't mean we'll never get a Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth DLC. The team famously did a U-turn on similar statements about a Final Fantasy XVI DLC. If there truly is this much content on offer in Rebirth, fair play to Square Enix for not forcing any more content in. We've got enough - we don't need to complain.
